U.S. EPA Extends Fifth Ward Soil Sampling Access Agreement Deadline to November 30

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has extended the deadline for property owners in Fifth Ward to sign access agreements for soil sampling to November 30. This extension was requested by Congresswoman Erica Lee Carter. Union Pacific has worked diligently over the last 15 months to make residents aware of the need to sign access agreements in order for testing to occur on their properties. Representatives canvassed the neighborhood door-to-door six times. In addition, seven mailers went out to property owners and a social media campaign that included paid advertising was launched to provide information and broaden reach. So far, 185 owners have signed access agreements.
